Serving Our Community

We desire a church where each person is challenged and trained to serve others.  Jesus came to serve, not be served as evidence by the way He poured Himself out for others.  It is our desire to be filled with the same compassion that compelled Him to help the lost, weak, helpless, and broken hearted. (Luke 4:16-19)

Below are just three examples of how we serve our community.  Some of our other local partnership are with:

Food Bank

The Food Bank is open every Saturday from 9am - 11am in the lower lobby. We ask that everyone come only once a month so that we can help more families.

The First Baptist Food Bank has been meeting the needs of the hungry in our community since 2006.  We have served over 1,000 families and are acquiring approximately 50 new families every month. We estimate that we are moving roughly 10,000 lbs. of food each month to help those in need – that’s almost 35 tons already this year!

Refugee Ministry

First Baptist Church has been ministering to and with refugees in some way since the Vietnam War.  For the past decade, we have befriended Karen Refugees originally from Burma, and most recently people who originally lived in Bhutan, the Republic of Congo, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria.   Karen Baptist Church of Boise meets for worship and other events in our church basement.  Pastor Eh Soe Min leads the congregation and their church is affiliated with The KBC USA.  Our Christian friends from Bhutan (El Bethel Prayer House) worships at The Hub every Sunday and is led by several people.

The Basement (a Thrift Closet for Teens)

The Basement is a free clothing boutique for the teens in our community, and also provides school supplies and hygiene items.

How does it work?  School counselors throughout the Treasure Valley refer students to The Basement program. Students are then scheduled for a one hour time slot to come enjoy a “boutique” experience. Our hope is that students leave with five school outfits and work appropriate clothing if he or she has a job.

Have clothes, jewelry, shoes, etc. to donate?
Drop them off in the church office Monday - Friday 9am – 4pm.   Adult and teen sizes only for now please.
